More about Sunny...
Outside the classroom, Suaya serves as the Vice President of Business at WJPZ, Inc., where she manages a six-figure budget and acts as the fiscal agent for Z89 Radio. In this capacity, she ensures the station's financial needs are met and manages budgetary responsibilities with precision. She is also a member of the board of directors, working alongside the General Manager, Vice Presidents and active Z89 alumni to vote on key issues and oversee station operations. In her role, Suaya oversees the Social Media, Public Relations, Web Design, and Graphic Design departments, guiding her directors, facilitating monthly strategy meetings and organizing external communications. Beyond administrative duties, Suaya is also an on-air personality. For the past two years, she has been a host of The Morning After, an entertainment and music show airing live every Sunday at 9 a.m. She has also led her own DJ shifts brining listeners a personable voice in between daily song lists, sharing news and creating segments.
Suaya is also deeply involved with Citrus TV, the leading student-run television station, which streams on Syracuse University’s Orange Television Network. Since her freshman year, she has gained extensive experience at the station. Currently, she serves as the Executive Producer for the Tuesday NOW, a news show. In this role, she leads the show’s organization and production, from crafting rundowns and writing news stories to collaborating with anchors and crew. She oversees live broadcasts every Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., ensuring the show runs seamlessly.
Suaya also has a great talent for social media and digital creation. As a hired member of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications’ social media team, she brainstorms, films, edits and posts content for the school’s Instagram and TikTok accounts. Her work showcases her understanding of branding, content strategy and algorithmic engagement. She also applies these skills in her role as a Celsius Brand Ambassador for her personal accounts.
In addition to her major, Suaya is minoring in Information Management and Technology at Syracuse University’s iSchool. She enjoys exploring subjects like coding, cloud computing and web design, with a particular interest in the evolution of technology and how humans interact with and utilize technology.
She is a high-achieving Dean’s List student who, after her first semester at Syracuse University, was honored as an Invest Scholar. This prestigious scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance and high potential for future success. Additionally, at the end of her first year, she received the exclusive First-Year Achievement Award, the only award presented to Newhouse freshmen. This honor recognizes two outstanding first-year students for their remarkable involvement in the university community and significant accomplishments in their endeavors.
More Personal…
Sunny Suaya grew up in Miami, Florida, as an only child. During high school, she was an active member of her crew team and still enjoys rowing. Her hobbies include snorkeling, beading, photography, travel videography and running.
From a young age, Suaya has been an advocate for animals. She became a vegetarian at age seven, despite being raised by meat-eating parents, out of concern for environmental sustainability and animal welfare. For over 13 years, she has adhered to a meat-free diet and participated in animal rights protests. Suaya has also volunteered over 700 hours with Paws2Care Coalition, a small dog rescue in Hollywood, Florida.
Her passion for writing is equally notable. She enjoys crafting poetry or journal entries and has been published in two magazine issues. She was also honored as one of the few students recognized at the "Best of Student Nonfiction" reception.
When she has free time (a rarity), Suaya enjoys getting lost in a good book.
